لقد ووجه الغجر دائما بنوع من الإقصاء من المجتمع، وتعرضوا دائما لمعاناة حفرت عميقا في تاريخهم و تاريخ البشرية.
في العقود الأخيرة بدأت تتغير النظرة إلى الغجر في عدد كبير من بلدان العالم، وإن بقيت على حالها في العالم العربي، حيث يطلق عليهم تسميات مثل النَّوَر و الكاوية..
استطاع الغجر المحافظة على تراثهم وتقاليدهم وطقوسهم، رغم أنهم عاشوا بين حضارات وشعوب مختلفة. وقد حافظوا على ارتباطهم بالموسيقى والرقص، وحافظوا على معتقداتهم وأساطيرهم.
يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يكون حياديا في البحث عن أصول الغجر وطقوسهم ومعتقداتم وثقافتهم. ويحاول الوصول إلى عوالم الغجر الحقيقية والجانب المخفي من المنحى الإنساني الذي يغلف حياتهم.
