إذا كانت الطاقة الذرية قد خرجت على الناس في شكل قنبلة مدمرة فإن هذا لا يجب أن ينسينا النواحي الإقتصادية والعمرانية التي يمكن أن تستخدم فيها هذه الطاقة ، فقد أصبح في مقدورنا أن نستخرج من كيلو جرام واحد من المادة ما يعدل محصول 2000 طن من أجود أنواع الوقود ، وإذا كنا قد حصلنا على هذه الطاقة على شكل انفجار هائل فإنما يرجع ذلك إلى أننا أردنا أن نحصل عليها على هذه الصورة ، فبُذلت الجهود ووجهت نحو هذا الغرض . أما وقد حل السلام وظهرت الحاجة الملحة إلى التعمير بدلاً من التدمير فإنني لا أشك في أن الجهود ستتجه إلى استخدام الطاقة الذرية كأداة محركة في الآلات الميكانيكية كما أنني لا أشك في أن التطورات الهندسية ستكون مملوءة بالمفاجآت .
