Book Description
يتناول هذا الكتاب الشائق قصة أحمد عرابى ورفاقه الذين نفاهم الاحتلال الإنجليزى إلى جزيرة سيلان، بعد قيامهم بالتمرد على كل من الحاكم والمحتل. فتقدم لنا المؤرخة الكبيرة د.لطيفة محمد سالم صورة حية للمنفى كموضوع تاريخي وفى الوقت نفسه كحالة معاناة إنسانية قد تدفع الواحد لتغيير جانب من آرائه، أو تدفع التحالف إلى الخلاف بل والعداوة أحياناً، ورغم أن هذا الموضوع المثير ظل لوقت طويل خارج أجندة البحث التاريخى فإن المؤلفة استطاعت وبحنكة الباحث المدقق أن تصنع من الشذرات المتفرقة فى الكتب والدوريات والوثائق كتابًا تأسيسيًا فى موضوعه.
يفصح الكتاب -ولأول مرة- عن تفاصيل ما جرى لعرابى ورفاقه الستة، وهم فى المنفى بجزيرة سيلان، وعلاقتهم ببريطانيا، ثم الخلافات التى نشأت بينهم، وسعيهم إنسانيًا وسياسيًا للخلاص من هذه التجربة الأليمة بعد أن سكنتهم الأمراض ولم يعد الأمر يحتمل، حتى إن بعضهم فارق الحياة دون أن يتحقق له أمل العودة إلى الوطن، وكذا عودة بعضهم والمساعى التى بذلت فى هذا الشأن ليعودوا منكسرين كما ذهبوا مهزومين بعد وقوفهم أمام أعتى سلطة خديوية يدافعون عن حرية المصريين، ثم تصديهم لأعتى قوة عالمية، مدافعين عن حرية مصر ضد التدخل الأجنبى.
