إن خدمة السنة النبوية وحمى حماها من أعظم الأعمال وأشرف العلوم، لذلك فقد تنافس العلماء في نيل ذلك الشرف الأسمى، وتلك المكانة العليا، فكان الإمام البخاري رحمه الله ممن حاز قصب السبق في هذا المجال، فجمع قسماً من السنة في كتابه الجامع الصحيح فنال كتابه القبول عند الأمة، حيث إنه وُسِم بأصحِّ كتاب بعد كتاب الله عز وجل. لأجل ذلك تسابق علماء الإسلام إلى تداوله والعناية به حفظاً ودراسة وشرحاً واختصاراً، فكثرت التصانيف حوله، وكان من بين تلك التصانيف هذا الكتاب الذي وصفه مؤلفه بأنه: نكت ساطعة الأنوار، عالية المقدار ماحية ظلم المشكلات البهيمة، هادية إلى أوضح الطرق المستقيمة، مصابيح تحسدها الثريا وتبدو لمجتلي معانيها محاسنها مشرقة المحيا، تحتوي على غريب يؤنس بتفسيره، وإعراب تفتقر أعجاز الكلمات إلى صدوره، وفائدة بيانية يشهد الذوق السليم بحلاوة مجانيها، ودليل يحتمله متن الحديث ، وفرع غريب قلَّ من ذكره من قديم وحديث، وتنبيه طالما كانت العيون عنه وسِنة، ونكت هي في وجه هذا التأليف حسنة، إلى غير ذلك من مباحث حلوة الجنى، وفوائد يصبح مالكها في غنى عن العنى. وقد ألف الدماميني هذا الكتاب للسلطان أحمد شاه بن محمد شاه بن مظفر شاه، أحد ملوك الهند، كما أنه قد كتبه وهو على جناح السفر.
