يعتبر زاما كريشنا بالنسبة إلى المتتبعين لسيرته والمعجبين بتعاليمه الروحية والفلسفية والأخلاقية من أضخم العقول التي أنجبتها الهند على مدى تاريخها الحضاري وحتى عصرنا الحاضر. كما أن الكثيرين من الفلاسفة الغربيين والمشارقة ينظرون إليه نظريتهم إلى أئمة التصوف الإسلامي أو القديسين المسيحيين؛ كجلال الدين الرومي والقديس بولس وسواهم.. لما تتسم به تعاليمه من محبة إنسانية عميقة شاملة. ولكنه بالنسبة إلى المؤمنين به وبتعاليمه، فهو فوق مرتبة القديسين والمتصوفين، لأنه بلغ في نظرهم، مرحلة الاتحاد بالله، وأصبح تجسيداً له على الأرض... وهذه المختارات التي يضمها هذا الكتاب هي مختارات من أقواله وتعاليمه وهي تلخص للقارئ الحقائق الروحية الكبرى التي اهتدى إليها وآمن بها ونشرها على تلاميذه وأتبعه وأبرزها: إيمانه بوحدة الوجود ووحدة الإنسانية ووحدة الأديان وتقمص الروح عبر ولادة جديدة تصاعدية مستمرة إلى أن تبلغ في النهاية درجة الكمال المطلق، وعندها تتحد اتحاداً كلياً بالذات الإلهية، تذوب فيها إلى الأبد. وتجدر الإشارة أن كريشنا نفسه لم يدون أو يؤلف أو يترك أية مقالات أو مخططات أو كتب، وإنما كان ينشر تعاليمه في الحلقات والندوات والمجالس التي يعقدها مع تلاميذه ومريديه، تماماً كما كان يفعل السيد المسيح مع تلاميذه أو الأحاديث النبوية التي يتناقلها المسلمون، وأقواله ومواعظه المترجمة في هذا الكتاب هي ما دوّنه وجمعه تلاميذه الذين كانوا يحضرون مجالسه ويرافقونه في رحلاته وتجولاته في مختلف أنحاء الهند.
