The Christ Church massacre has sent some shockwaves across Muslim communities in Europe. No one expected Muslim devotees to be butchered in broad day light like this in any western countries. There is no doubt this massacre is a blood-stained scar in the history of Muslim migration into Europe. It is estimated that more than 40 million Muslims live in different parts of the European continent. Muslims make up nearly 5% the Europe’s population and it is expected that Muslim population in Europe will increase dramatically in coming decades. This mass shooting sends some bad tidings about the future of Muslim community in Europe. It reminds us of the historical grudge between Muslims and Christian communities. It reminds us the nostalgia of the crusades and Spanish Muslim exodus. It reminds us of the history of Holocaust. The Muslim community should learn some lessons from this massacre. The Christ Church massacre epitomises Islamophobia sentiment. This massacre cannot be a coincident or an accidental event, rather there must be politics and conspiracies behind this shooting. This book explores the social phenomenon of Islamophobia. It traces its origin and genus in relation to the Christ Church shootings. How should the Muslim community in Europe encounter it and what should it do to mitigate the threat of Islamophobia attacks? How should Muslim community encounter far-right groups and what should it do to eradicate Muslim extremism? This book explores the inter-community relation between Muslim and Christian communities in relation to Christchurch massacre. It also proposes some strategies to counter both Muslim and far-right extremism.
Dr S.L.M Rifai (Naleemi) is an academic, author, and lecturer. His early learning in Islamic sciences and Arabic language was at Jamiah Naleemiah, Sri Lanka. He earns his M.A in modern trend in Islam and his Ph.D in Islamic studies from SOAS, University of London
